You installed a dryer. So your air must be clean, right?

Wrong.

This is the single biggest misconception I see in factories every week.

Most plant managers and factory owners believe that once they install a refrigerated air dryer, their compressed air is dry enough for production. Unfortunately, that belief is slowly destroying your pneumatic tools, your product quality, and your profit margin.

Here Is What Is Actually Happening Inside Your Pipes

Compressed air leaving your screw compressor is at 100% relative humidity. Even after passing through an aftercooler and a water separator, the air is still fully saturated.

As it travels through your workshop piping, it cools down. And when it cools, water condenses.

That liquid water:

1.Pools in low spots

2.Rusts your pipes from the inside

3.Corrodes your valves

4.Washes away lubricating oil in pneumatic cylinders and air tools

At the same time, your lubricated screw compressor carries over oil. Even with a high-efficiency oil separator, typical oil content is 3 to 5 mg/m³.

For painting, electronics, or food applications, that level is 30 to 50 times above acceptable limits.

That oil:

1.Coats internal surfaces

2.Sticks to moving parts

3.Clogs fine orifices

4.Causes adhesion failure on painted or coated surfaces

And do not forget the dust and rust particles already present in your pipe network. They act like sandpaper, wearing down cylinder seals, scoring valve surfaces, and blocking spray gun nozzles.

They blame the spray gun. They blame the paint. They blame the machine tool.

The Fix Is Simpler Than You Think

It is not about buying a bigger dryer or a more expensive filter.

It is about the right combination of equipment, installed in the correct sequence, for your specific application.

The standard three-stage approach works for ninety percent of factories.

Stage One – Bulk Removal
Aftercooler + Water Separator + Refrigerated Dryer

This removes about 95% of free water and bulk oil carryover. It gives you a pressure dew point of around +3°C, which is sufficient for general workshop tools and blow-off applications.

Stage Two – Deep Drying (if your application demands it)
Desiccant Dryer

For laser cutting, high-precision CNC, painting, or electronics, you need deeper drying. A desiccant dryer delivers -40°C pressure dew point — meaning absolutely no water will condense, even in winter conditions.

Stage Three – Final Filtration Polishing
1µm Particulate Pre-filter + 0.01µm Oil Coalescing Filter + Activated Carbon Adsorber

11µm pre-filter catches fine dust

20.01µm coalescing filter removes oil aerosols to ≤ 0.01 mg/m³

3Activated carbon adsorber eliminates oil vapor and odor for painting or food applications

4This combination brings water, oil, and particles down to ISO 8573-1 Class 2 or even Class 1 levels.
